Medical Nanotechnology

Throughout history, humanity’s efforts have consistently been directed toward ensuring its survival and sustaining the ecosystem in which it lives. The establishment of various businesses and professions has also been rooted in this fundamental goal. Some professions aim to enhance the quality of life, while others focus on increasing its duration.

Whether it’s an artisan, a teacher, a driver, or an office assistant, all work to improve quality and comfort in life through their services. However, the medical profession, along with related fields and the professors and students engaged in it, holds a unique position. Not only do they contribute to improving the quality of life, but they also prioritize increasing its duration and quantity.

Extending the life of a loved one battling a life-threatening illness, even by a single day, is an immense blessing. And if that extension leads to a complete cure, what gift could ever compare to such a profound miracle?

Certainly, the medical-related professions shoulder this critical responsibility, and within this scope, the field of Medical Nanotechnology plays a distinguished role. Accordingly, our group considers it a duty to leverage nanotechnology knowledge and expertise, utilizing experienced and dedicated faculty to encourage students to identify health challenges and threats. Through guiding targeted research projects and theses, as well as developing tools and systems at the nanoscale, we aim to address and mitigate these risks.

Moreover, given the need of research and clinical centers for specialized training programs supported by basic science groups, the necessity of bridging the clinical sector with basic science research became increasingly evident. By establishing multidisciplinary research teams, foundational investigations such as nanodrug formulations, the establishment of nano-medicine-based diagnostic and therapeutic centers, and the development of nanomedical product manufacturing plants have gained prominence. Consequently, the education and development of postgraduate students at the master’s and Ph.D. levels became a pressing need.

In this context, the authorization to establish the Medical Nanotechnology master's program was granted by the Secretariat for Basic Medical Sciences in 2006. Subsequently, in 2007, the first doctoral program (Ph.D.) in Medical Nanotechnology was also approved. Currently, the Department of Medical Nanotechnology at the School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine has admitted nine cohorts of master’s students and eight cohorts of Ph.D. students, aiming to position itself as one of the leading educational groups in the country and region.

As of the end of 2014, the department hosts 36 master's students and 38 Ph.D. candidates actively pursuing their studies.

The objectives of this field of study include training specialists needed by the country at the master's and Ph.D. levels in the field of Medical Nanotechnology, conducting fundamental and applied research to generate knowledge and wealth, and providing specialized services and consultations to governmental and private organizations.

Our mission is to contribute to improving community health and elevating the university's scientific standing nationally and internationally. This is achieved by creating an environment conducive to learning and teaching advanced medical technologies and training graduates capable of contributing to educational, research, consulting, production, and medical services with a nanotechnology approach. We strive to leverage global resources and facilities to conduct fundamental and applied research while fostering active engagement with policymakers and stakeholders in research and technology.

We aim to attract talented students, deliver structured educational programs, and promote research and institutionalize applied studies. By doing so, we aspire to position ourselves as one of the leading and impactful schools nationally and internationally. Using advanced technologies for knowledge and wealth production, we are committed to advancing public health and serving society effectively.
